George H. Cooper
(1920-2015)

Mr. Cooper began his creative career after his academics where he majored in art. His first position prior to World War II was as a technical illustrator for an aircraft company in Santa Monica, California. He enlisted in the Navy and spent three years of active duty overseas. After his honorable discharge, he was employed as a commercial and technical illustrator in the Los Angeles area.

During these past years, George was able to devote full time to his paintings. He loved the sea and ships, and was skilled enough to capture the sheer beauty of these images and the many moods of the ocean.

The artist subject matter spans an historic range from beautiful Clipper sailing ships, Windjammers to Merchants, Freighters and Tugs from a half century or more ago.

His seascapes and re-creations of long past water fronts and harbors have been well received.

Corporations as well as private collectors, have purchased his oil paintings. He was an Official U.S. Coast Guard Artist, member of the National Maritime Historical Society and American Society of Maritime Artists. George's paintings have been exhibited in the 1st Annual International Maritime Art Exposition , Newport Beach, California; and Fine Art Galleries in Beverly Hills, Lahaina, Honolulu, Seattle, and Scottsdale.
